Good News and Bad News for Education Freedom Accounts in New Hampshire

Last week, the New Hampshire House voted to expand Education Freedom Accounts to families that fall under 500 percent of the Federal Poverty Limit – up to $150,000 in annual income for a family of four. While a marked increase from the current 350 percent, this bill narrowly passed – and others, like the proposal to make the program universal, failed.

Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs) are broadly popular with all Granite Staters. School parents especially so, with 75 percent approving of the program according to an EdChoice poll conducted in January 2024.

And while popular EFAs have been primarily championed by Republican legislators in Concord, a handful continue to oppose expansion.

What You Can Do

Lawmakers who oppose EFAs deserve to hear from you. Every single Democrat voted against expanding the program to be universal, and eight Republicans joined them. The bill failed 186-194 because of these Republicans:
