Education Freedom Opponents

The House of Representatives passed a bill to expand education freedom in New Hampshire last week, barely, but killed another that would have made Education Freedom Accounts universal.

House Bill 1634 failed 186-194 and would have made Education Freedom Accounts universal to every student in New Hampshire.

House Bill 1665 passed 190-189 and, if enacted into law, will expand Education Freedom Account eligibility to 500 percent of the federal poverty limit, or $150,000 for a family of four, from 350 percent of FPL, or about $109,000 for a family of four.

Here are the eight Republicans that voted against education freedom:

Rep. Dan Wolf represents Newbury and New London in the New Hampshire House and is in his third term.

He scored a 31.2 percent with the NH Liberty Alliance in 2023 and is considered a ‘D’ for liberty.

Wolf scored a 27.7 percent with the NH House Republican Alliance, which scores bills based on the Republican platform and the Constitution.

Wolf voted against all proposals to expand Education Freedom Accounts, including the bill that passed which would increase the limit to 500 percent of the Federal Poverty Limit, a modest expansion from the current 350 percent.

While Trottier scores an 83.9 percent with the House Republican Alliance, he missed nearly 60 percent of the roll call votes taken in 2023!

Trottier scores a 55.2 percent with the NH Liberty Alliance, but earned a grade of ‘Incomplete’ because of the vast number of absences from his duties in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Trottier opposed even the modest expansion of EFAs to 500 percent FPL, HB1665.
